Blog Post 7

So far my experience with Twitter has been good. I have been able to learn about different technological advances in the classroom from articles that other students have posted. I like following different educational Twitter pages because it allows me to see new additions or changes in the educational world. Benefits of Twitter include being able to collaborate with other whether it be classmates or anyone in the world, you can communicate and share ideas with many people. With Twitter you can also see and learn new things from viewing what people tweet. The biggest problems I have had with Twitter is forgetting to tweet on a weekly basis. Other than that Twitter is very easy to use.

I did not like the web page design assignment at first because it was very difficult to navigate the website and figure out how to use the tools. I struggled the most with trying to figure out how to format pictures and texts to look and fit nicely on the page. I learned how to use an embedded google calendar on Weebly. I can use the skills I learned of making my own website to create my own class page when I am a teacher. I can create my own website to post important reminders and dates for parents and students to see as well as link extra resources for educational purposes on my website.  From working with Diigo I learned how to annotate an article and share my notes on a discussion board to where others could see. I also learned how to bookmark websites and highlight and leave sticky notes on important parts of the articles. Diigo can be useful in my classroom to share crucial points in an article with my students. I think Diigo would be more effective in the older grades as opposed to elementary education because I think it would be tricky for elementary school children to use. I think it would be most useful to collaborate and share relevant articles with my team members. It would be a quick and useful tool to let others in our network see articles and the content we found important.

A flipped classroom is where students watch prerecorded lectures outside the classroom as homework. Then in the classroom, instead of listening to the teachers lecture, students are doing more hands on work with the lessons they watched outside of the classroom. The section in chapter ten says that this allows for students to form a deeper understanding of material because they first learn the content outside of school and then are able to come into the classroom and actual practice with the content learned with other students with the teacher there to help clarify and guide them with anything they need. Blog Post 4

I have been using twitter to mainly look at other educational organizations posts. I have found it beneficial because it gives me an outlet to see different articles on education. I think that twitter could help me in my future career as a teacher to help send out additional information to students. I could post clarifying assignments or sharing different articles that I find interesting for the class to read. It could be a useful tool for answering students questions because twitter is quick and easy to use. The digital divide affects each student's success differently in the classroom depending on which side of the divide they fall on. If the student does not have consistent access to technology at home than they are at a disadvantage. While there are sometimes other options of getting to technology such as the library, it still makes things more difficult for the child. Blog Post 10

I will use data collection and reporting tools often as a teacher. I can use both of these tools for organizational purposes and a way of gaining information for myself. I can use data collection surveys to create surveys that ask my students questions about how confident they feel with their comprehension of material so I can analyze their responses and see if the class seems to be grasping the concepts well enough and decide if I can test them or need to spend more time teaching the curriculum. I think that parent involvement is very important, especially for parents of elementary school students because it is the beginning of their child's educational career.
