- A flipped classroom is where students watch prerecorded lectures outside the classroom as homework. Then in the classroom, instead of listening to the teachers lecture, students are doing more hands on work with the lessons they watched outside of the classroom. The section in chapter ten says that this allows for students to form a deeper understanding of material because they first learn the content outside of school and then are able to come into the classroom and actual practice with the content learned with other students with the teacher there to help clarify and guide them with anything they need. I kind of like this concept because it allows for more instructional time to practice material learned which can help a student actually understand what is being taught and not just memorize the material. I do not like this design though because personally it is harder for me to learn from listening to a video on my own, it is easier for me to learn when I have a teacher in front of me explaining. This video gives more insight into what a flipped classroom is and what it looks like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_p63W_2F_4 .
- Open education is the use of resources that are free of all barriers (legal and financial) to help spread education. I like the idea of open education because I think that everyone should have the opportunity to learn. With open education the information is at the fingertips of anyone who has the willingness to go and seek more knowledge. Open education spreads learning to a large amount of people for free and everyone having some extra knowledge in this life is beneficial to all. This article that I linked also brought up a open education as a solution to a big problem. College students have required textbooks, however these textbooks are very costly and add up quickly. This burdens many college students and can put a dent in their education. Open education solves this problem because the material is free and accessible to everyone. https://sparcopen.org/open-education/
- From working on the two PowerPoint assignments I learned a lot of new skills that I did not know were possible, or simply just did not know how to do before. I enjoyed learning how to make jeopardy on PowerPoint because I always played this game in my classes and wondered how the teachers made them. It is definitely a skill that I will be utilizing when I am a teacher. I learned how to add audio onto my PowerPoint slides and other sounds. I learned how to use slide master and create my own layout. I like the way my jeopardy PowerPoint turned out, next time I would like to implement more transitions and effects to make it more fun to see. I like the layout I created for my other PowerPoint assignment. Next time I would like to try making the presentation with audio and using the highlighter or pen tools.
